Mickaël Doucet was born in Blois (France) in 1974. He currently lives and works in Paris. Initially trained in mathematics and physics, he enrolled in the Fine Art Studio of Glacière in Paris in 2000’s and has not stopped painting since. Through a highly referenced painting, both symbolically and technically, the artist questions the creativity in our societies. The interiors he depicts are like sanctuaries for reflection and meditation.

OPENART Proust Questionnaire
Artist Q&A: Mickaël Doucet

Q: How are you?

MD: Well I’m doing okay. Despite the current crisis, I’m okay.

Q: What is your present state of mind?

MD: Rather very positive.

Q: What is your best moment or experience during lockdown?

MD: In fact, I think it was during the first lockdown. I used to come to my studio cycling. Paris was empty. It was really a very pleasant feeling. I did appreciate it.

Q: Do you work with music or in silence?

MD: I always work with music!

Q: Last song, album or podcast that inspired you?

MD: Well, I’m not really inspired by the music I listen to because I listen to a lot of music. But at the moment, I listen to a band named the Black Pistol Fire, which is quite rock. I like listening to it.

Q: Which do you like more poetry or literature?

MD: Both of them.

Q: What was the last book that inspired you?

MD: Homer’s Odyssey

Q: What is your favorite color?

MD: Well, I haven’t a favorite color in my artistic practice, but in my life I like green.

Q: Who is your favorite artist?

MD: My favorite artist…I think it’s really Leonardo da Vinci.

Q: What inspired you to become an artist?

MD: Something deep inside me that I can’t really explain.

Q: What is the role of an artist in society?

MD: Certainly beautify it, even if it’s commonplace. But at least to try to raise it a bit would be great.

Q: What is your motto in life?

MD: My motto is a quote from Jean-Paul Sartre in Existentialism is humanism: “Man is nothing but his life.”

Q: What is your motto in your artistic practice?

MD: Always going further.

Q: What are some of your upcoming projects?

MD: I have plenty. Exhibitions, exhibitions, exhibitions. I have one in Lisbon starting soon, surely another one in Chicago, and I changed galleries. I’ll be represented by Virginie Louvet in Paris. Planned exhibition at the end of 2021-beginning 2022. That’s it. It’s not bad. Then I’ll see…Perhaps New York next year!

Thank you, Mickaël!

MD: You’re welcome! With pleasure!
