Yujin’s works are in the collection of Gwangju Museum of Art, Art Bank (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art), Seoul Museum of Art, Youngeun Museum and Kumho Museum in Korea. Her works explore the tension between the self-referential autonomy of paint and representation of the external environment by creating abstract and figurative illusions within one canvas.

“One of my goals is to make paintings that will cause people to stop as they pass by – to aggressively grab their attention against their will – so I use contrasts to do that and keep the viewers entertained. As I collage photos together, I try to imagine what it would look like when represented with paint and technique. The style/s of the painting develops as I progress through it. The unpredictable nature of enamel paint adds to the style.”

“As I include more nature and natural subjects in my work, my work has become less figurative and more abstract since nature is not as exacting as manmade objects. Also, in these two paintings, because the mountains are in the background and far away, I may have deliberately painted them a bit more nebulous, just as they appear in real life.”
